Why does it matter? When it comes to web design, it's not just about making the website "pretty", it's more about usability and user experience. Is the text large enough for people to read? Can users navigate the site easily without any instruction? Basically, you don't want to have poorly designed website that could potentially confuse users and hence, affect the conversion rate and decrease your sales.
I have more than 6 years of experience in web development. From server hosting, back-end API to front-end development. I have not only worked in big enterprise companies like Flight Centre or Budget Direct, but have also started my own businesses including Zippity and Blossom Days.
I always enjoy the process of creating a new website. From design to implementation, every website is different and unique in their own way. Depends on the target customers, websites should be designed and built based on their needs.
Nowadays, Digital Marketing has become increasingly important especially for small businesses. No matter how pretty your website is, without good marketing and advertising strategy, no one will find out about your business since there are more than 500 new websites created each minute.
There are different strategies to market and advertise your website online, such as SEO, paid advertising or social media marketing. In order to improve the site's visibility online, website's contents need to be optimised to increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
Blossom Days is a tailor-made floral gifts shop in Hong Kong. They offer a wide variety of products include bouquet flowers, centrepiece, handmade candles, etc.
My main responsibilities include designing, developing and maintaining the website in Wordpress. Site's performance and SEO are constantly being improved by optimising the images, text contents and meta data on the site.
I am also in charge of online marketing and advertising. Whenever there is a campaign, e.g. Valentine's Day, it is important to increase website traffic by advertising on social media and Google.
Santiago is a Brisbane based online coffee beans shop. They import high quality Arabica coffee beans from El Salvador and offer a wide range of premium coffee beans.
In this job, my client has already chosen a theme so my job is basically just to finish the setup in WordPress including setting up the eCommerce with PayPal.
The most challenging part is to customise the theme's components since it doesn't provide too much flexibility out of the box.
Zippity is a job searching platform for people who are looking for retail or hospitality jobs. Rather than just purely focusing on the skills matching, Zippity also takes workplace culture and candidate's personality into consideration.
I worked as a technical lead in Zippity. My jobs included managing the server hosting, code deployment, back-end implementation and front end development.
It was an awesome and challenging experience to work in a startup environment. Different from working at enterprise where people will tell you exactly what to do or build. In a startup, you will need to be more self-driven and have more responsibilities. I also learnt a lot from a business perspective since I was heavily involved in different business decision marking processes including advertising and marketing strategy planning.
Budget Direct is one of Australia's leading general insurance companies. Time after time when independent experts compare car insurance, Budget Direct takes home the awards.
In this company, I worked as a Full Stack web developer. I was responsible for all partnership websites and life products. My responsibilities included maintaining the old applications that were written in JSTL. I was also involved in building the new Income Protection website with new tech stacks such as Angular, Webpack and Jest. For back-end, I needed to build the API in Java using the Spring framework.
The technologies used in Budget Direct were really up-to-date and that gave me a lot of opportunities to explore the latest tech stacks. For example, apart from web development, I could also play around with the Bamboo CI server and Iridium Integration Testing.
Flight Centre is Australia's leading travel agent, offering cheap flights (domestic and international), holiday packages, cruises, ski holidays, last minute hotel deals, travel insurance and much more.
Developed and maintained the Flight Centre Australia website using Drupal. My responsibilities included building front-end components using jQuery, React and Sass. I also worked on the Drupal back-end to create API endpoints and custom Drupal modules such as the enquiry form.
Working in Flight Centre was such a great experience for me since I could work closely with the UI/UX designers for different new features or projects. I was involved in things like A/B testing which allowed me to learn a lot about user behaviour and how web design can greatly affect the leads generations, sales and revenue of a business.
I’m currently available for any freelance work. If you have a project that you think you need my help with, let's get in touch.
